From aesthetic care to “psychological care”: Camping-Care, a traveling wellness salon for women in precarious situations

On this sweltering June evening, a small white van is parked in front of the skateboard railings at Place de la République in Paris. There's no visible logo to indicate that this is Camping-Care, the traveling wellness salon that has been traveling the roads of Paris and Seine-Saint-Denis since 2021, providing care to women in situations of extreme exclusion. All summer long, the little truck continues to take care of them, "since precariousness doesn't take a vacation," as the association points out on its Instagram account.
At the origin of the project, Sybil Gerbaud explains that she started from an observation: society refuses to look at people experiencing homelessness. "The idea is to bring consideration and above all, this regard, through care, and more specifically to women, who are very vulnerable when they are on the streets," emphasizes the founder of the association - who is also the press advisor to the former President of the Republic François Hollande.
At her side, Noémie (who did not wish to give her name), one of the six socio-estheticians at Camping-Care, will carry out the treatments for the evening.
